Maurienne valley speciality karellis

Specialties of the Maurienne Valley

Have you heard of diot? It's a pork-based sausage. Taste it the winegrower's way: simmered for four hours in a caquelon with dry white wine. All the aroma of Savoyard grape varieties will come rushing to your taste buds! Accompany your diot with a dish of buckwheat crozets, and you're ready to face winter.

Another specialty to discover is farçon. It's a dish made with potatoes, bacon and fruit. Once considered the dish of the poor, its ingredients vary according to what's on hand. In any case, the result is a delicious sweet-and-sour dish you won't be able to live without.

How about a little dessert?

The inevitable Savoy cake is made with egg whites delicately folded in to give it its light, airy texture. Topped with sugar and slivered almonds, it's a delicious treat that you can eat without going hungry. To vary the pleasures, accompany your coffee with a Modane bread with candied fruit and almonds.

Chasselas, Aligoté, Chardonnay, Roussette d'Ayze... many local producers are waiting to show you around their cellars. Find out more at the Tourist Office.
